ViaPure® Citrus is an excellent soothing agent for both chronic and acute inflammatory conditions. It potently inhibits PLA2, an initiator of the arachidonic acid cascade, and has been shown to quickly reduce SDS-induced erythema.
ViaPure® Citrus helps to keep skin firm and prevent premature aging by protecting the extracellular matrix in the skin. It strongly inhibits hyaluronidase activity, preventing the breakdown of the glycosaminoglycan hyaluronic acid. ViaPure® Citrus also down-regulates hyaluronidase and MMP gene expressions, while up-regulating the expression of TIMP, an MMP inhibitor.
In addition, ViaPure® Citrus helps protect the skin from the damaging effects of UV exposure. ViaPure® Citrus significantly inhibits the production of proinflammatory mediators, PGE2 and TNF-α, following UV exposure. Apigenin, the active component of ViaPure® Citrus, is also known to prevent and repair UV-induced DNA damage by inducing and stabilizing p53 (the “Guardian Gene”).
